While H and L chondrites are produced continuously in ordinary collisions, nearly half of the former and a large fraction of the latter were generated in catastrophic events that may have resulted in total disintegration of the parent bodies. Important information on the question as to where such events could have taken place can be derived from the interrelations between the age and aphelion distributions of the chondrites.
