The asteroid 39 Laetitia is compared to a triaxial ellipsoid revolving around the c axis, and from this viewpoint and on the basis of observed amplitudes of 1949, 1952, 1953, and 1955, the ratios of its semiaxes (c/a and c/b) and the coordinates of the poles are determined. The central assumption is that the observed intensity is proportional to the projected area on the tangent plane to the celestial sphere, which yields a formula for the angle between the line of sight and the rotation axis of the asteroid in terms of the observed amplitude and the ratios of the semiaxes. It is found that c/a equals 0.40 plus or minus 0.02, c/b equals 0.70 plus or minus 0.02 and the ecliptic coordinates of the poles are 121 deg and 32 deg, respectively, with an accuracy of 3 deg.
