Previous models of phosphorus chemistry in dense interstellar clouds are extended to include a gas phase systhesis for the newly observed interstellar molecule, PN (phosphorus nitride). A time-dependent calculation shows that the abundance of PN and upper limits to the abundances of other phosphorus-bearing molecules are reproduced without the need to invoke grain disruption or high-temperature reactions.
