A phase-dependent atmosphere analysis of the β Cephei star σ Scorpii is presented. From high resolution coudé plates, effective temperatures and gravities are derived for a complete pulsation cycle of the star. Mean values are Teff = 26,150K±1070K, log g = 3.85±0.17 dex. The ranges in effective temperature and gravity throughout the cycle are ΔTeff= 4000K±2000K and Δlog geff = 0.7±0.4 dex. These ranges are most easily explained by the radial pulsation hypothesis. Derivation of the He, N and O abundances reveals that they are very nearly solar.
