The Bamboo Chronicle recorded: "In the 19th year of King Zhao, the sky turned very dark, pheasants and hares were shocked, (King Zhao) lost 6 divisions of the army by River Han. "This scene is very much like a total solar eclipse taking place in a cloudy sky. This event took place during the war years when King Zhao crusaded against the State Chu, and it should appear somewhere between the capital and the south of the Lake Dongting. The 19th year of King Zhao should be one year in the period of BC 1010-940, according to related investigations. Through a wide discussion of astronomical parameters, this event can be identified with the total solar eclipse that took place on May 31, 976 BC. This identification is demonstrated in this paper through a palaeographic, astronomical and chronological analysis. The result of this paper is an independent support to "Xia Shang Zhou Chronology Project" after making a minor and reasonable adjustment to the related result of the project.
