We have carried out an astrometric test of the 1.56m reflector of Shanghai Observatory. Two plates of the Pleiades region were taken and the images were measured with a PDS microdensitometer. Referring to the positions given in Eichhorn's catalogue as, standards and using a cubic reduction formula, we find the positions within +/-14' of the centre are determined with an accurcy of 0.03'', and within +/-16', an accuracy of 0.04''. A comparison with the Mexican 2.12m reflector is made. In addition, the coefficient of the coma term in the plate constants is found to be on the order of 10-4-10-5 and that of the distortion term, on the order of 10-8-10-9. These figures indicate that the 1.56 R-C Reflector is well fitted to undertake astrometry of faint objects.
