The Astronomical Data Center (ADC) at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center holds more than 3000 catalogs and journal data tables. Our on-going efforts to improve data discovery have resulted in a prototype search service based on eXtensible Markup Language (XML) technologies. This experimental service gives ADC's users greater control when searching the ADC's collection of published data than is available through the established ADC search facility. This prototype uses off-the-shelf Java class libraries and object-oriented programming techniques to implement a powerful content-based search capability. We present examples of this service in action and our plans to evolve it into full service featuring more sophisticated searches, more combinations of criteria, and selective retrieval of the desired data elements.
