V861 Sco (= HD 152667) is a close binary with an early-type primary at one time suspected of having a compact (black hole) companion. It is now known that the system comprises a lobe-filling B0Ia star with a B2V secondary. It is pointed out that mass loss from the primary via its stellar wind is of considerable interest, since few close binaries have been investigated in detail in this respect. Other points of interest are related to the longitudinal dependence of the mass flux from the star, and the effect of reduced surface gravity on the terminal velocity of the wind. These questions can be studied with the aid of IUE observations. The spectrum characteristics are discussed, taking into account mass loss features, aspects of variability, and a comparison of current results with findings reported by Hutchings and Dupree (1980). Attention is also given to the escape velocity at the stellar surface, line profiles, and the ionization balance.
