An analysis of the optical light curve of the companion of HZ Her is used to obtain various parameters for the X-ray binary system 3U 1653+35. In addition to pulsations and the orbital period, a third cycle is noted in which the source turns on about every 35 days, decreases to below detectable limits after about 11 days, and remains low for 24 days. Energy of about 10 to the 37th eg/s is emitted by this source in the X-ray band in sharply-defined pulses with a period of about 1.2 s. The intrinsic pulsational period of the X-ray source is found to decrease with time. A method for the evaluation of reflection effects in close binary systems is proposed.
