Analysis of the relationship existing between lightcurve amplitudes and phase angles for a set of numerical and laboratory models is presented. As a first approximation, both approaches give evidences of linear relationships. Moreover, the slopes of these relationships appear to depend linearly on the corresponding amplitudes reduced to 0 deg phase angle. This fact offers a simple method for reducing observed amplitudes to the same phase angle, as strongly necessary when determinations of shapes and poles are attempted. In addition, the available amplitude-phase relationships of actual asteroids are analyzed. They qualitatively confirm the numerical and laboratory results and give indication of different behaviors among different taxonomic types. In particular, C, M and E types show quite similar, small slopes, while S-type objects are characterized by a large sloper.
