Spectroscopic observations of sunspots of different areas and in various phases of evolution were performed with the horizontal telescope-spectrograph in Ondřejov. A technique for obtaining a semiempirical model of photospheric layers in the umbra from observed line profiles (corrected for stray light) is described together with a set of computational programs. Some preliminary results are presented.
