We present a new form of merit function which measures an agreement between large number of data and a model function with the particular choice of parameters. We demonstrate the efficiency of introduced merit function on the common problem of finding base line of the spectrum. Also, we discuss efficiency of existing minimization algorithms in discrete topography which is concomitant to proposed merit function in general case.
