Scientific Objectives: 1) Temporally resolved hyperspectral study of Earth's atmospheric dynamic response to internal and external energetic driving forces. 2) An astrophysics team will use FUV spectral imaging to investigate diffuse targets in the wavelength range between 900 and 1150 A and in particular the evolution of galaxies and their star formation history. The introduction of the ISS Full Truss Site option for research represents an exciting opportunity to advance our knowledge of the Sun-Earth Connection and Space Weather. The attributes of the Full Truss Site allow the deployment of a set of associated remote sensing instrument that will return a comprehensive data set on the simultaneous response of the Earth's atmosphere to many disturbing forces at many levels. The sun can be monitored for changes in the EUV ionizing flux that can be related to changes in the plasmasphere, ionosphere, and auroral activity. The absolute O, O2, N2 densities can be measured by Solar EUV absorption. By use of modern detector technology, our understanding of the photochemical response to solar influence can be defined spectrographically as never before. The photochemical response to changes in wind velocity and direction can add to our tools to understand the interactions of gravity waves and other types of dynamics. Simultaneous imaging can be used to identify wave patterns at several levels in the nightglow layer. Stereo hyperspectral imaging can be used to study temporal dynamics in atmospheric cells in both the dayglow and nightglow. New tomographic techniques can provide more insight into the finer structure of active atmospheric cells. A high priority task will be to provide ground-based aeronomers with a record of the atmospheric structure above their ground sites adding a new dimension to their collaborative studies. In keeping with efficient use of ISS resources a secondary experiment will be include. Since the top of the Full Truss Site is the single best ISS location for an astronomical telescope, an EUV/FUV astronomical telescope can be placed on the top of the payload. There is a strong astrophysical research program associated with the telescope. All remote-sensing instruments will have to be mounted on scan platforms and pointing will be referred to star trackers. The most accurate tracking reference will be the provided by the astronomical telescope star trackers.
