Radiocarbon evidence for the fluctuations in the galactic cosmic ray intensity at the earth's orbit is examined. The five-reservoir model is applied to determine the balance and redistribution of cosmogenic C-14 in nature. The curve for the modulation coefficient as a function of the variations in the radiocarbon formation rate is shown, as is the intensity variation of the galactic cosmic rays within the rigidity range 0.5-50 GV over the past 8000 years or so. The results suggest that prolonged solar activity minima, like the Maunder minimum, have been a common occurrence over the past 8000 yr.
