The author proposes to interpret the amplitude modulation in HR 7308 and also in RR Lyrae stars as an instability appearing at large amplitude during the star evolution. He numerically investigates this instability on a one zone model submitted to a variable external flux. The qualitative behavior of the modulation is in agreement with the observed one in HR 7308.
