A solution complex of composition Si(OH) 4 · SO 4 -2 is postulated to account for the salting-in of amorphous silica by aqueous sodium sulfate solutions at high temperatures. The postulate is suggested by 1. (1) the observed salting-in effec 2. (2) the calculation of association constants that adhere remarkably to a straight line van't Hoff relation, providing a nearly constant and feasible value for the heat of association from 0 to 350°C, and the reasonable spatial structure envisioned for the weak complex.
