The 18m-long shuttle bay offers potential for sub-milliarc second resolution at near-UV wavelengths. The authors explore its potential for spectro-interferometric comparison of the continuum source and the broad emission line regions of the quasar 3C273 and Seyfert galaxy NGC 4151. In their concept, two moderate-size telescopes are linked to each other and a beam combiner by a laser. The direction of the baseline is set by a photoelectric guider on the telescopes. Diffraction and light collection combine to make the coherence time and thus sensitivity a rapid function of telescope diameters.
