In NPO PM, Zheleznogorsk of Krasnoyarsk region, Russia created the first variable-conductance heat pipes (VCHP) for maintenance of the thermal behavior of the communication satellite of a type ``SMALLSAT'' in whole (four VCHP), and for thermal control of autonomous devices of an attitude control and stabilization system of the communication satellites of a type ``LUCH.'' Due to the presence of the patented design turbulizators, profiled rods in a condensation zone and small quantity of non condensed gas, the VCHP provides a large depth of regulation and works approximately a 2 times more effectively, for example, than VCHP of the French satellite ``SIGMA.'' The VCHP has a stainless steel wick structure in operation. Developed aluminum VCHP has a constructional wick. In the report on the design of the VCHP from the pressed aluminum profile, the mathematical model and results of the experimental improvement is presented. The features of creating a similar VCHP and path to overcome difficulties is considered. The aspects of providing of the VCHP reliability are analyzed at long duration operation.
