Alpha, the Articulated Large-area Plasma Helicon Array, has recently begun operation. It uses multiple helicon sources to create a 43 cm diameter, 4 m long plasma column. In contrast to previous work with multiple helicon sources, we use seven independent tubes, each with its own RF power supply and matching network. In addition, Alpha operates with a much stronger magnetic field, typicaly of the order 0.1 T. We present density and temperature profiles for various operation regimes.
