The rates for the two alpha-capture reactions 14O(α,p)17F and 14O(α,γ)18Ne are calculated on the basis of the T = 1 analog structure of 18O and 18Ne. The influence of the resonant and nonresonant reaction contributions is determined for the temperature range 0.1 < T9 < 10. The possible importance of 14O(α,p)17F as the breakout reaction for the hot CNO cycle is discussed for several hydrogen-burning scenarios.
