The Short-Wavelength Spectrometer (SWS) for the Infrared Space Observatory is described. The general SWS concept is summarized, and the optical configuration is examined, including the input optics, spectrometers and reimaging optics, Fabry-Perot optics. A block diagram and a dimetric view of the optics are presented. The wavelength resolution of the SWS, its mechanical configuration, and its alignment and testing are addressed.
