Gas chromatographic and mass spectrometric analysis of the alicyclic hydrocarbons extractable from two morphologically dissimilar types of organic material from a localized deposit of hydrocarbons in the Carboniferous limestone of North Derbyshire, England, reveal distinct variations in the distribution pattern of the alkanes. The two forms may have different origins or evolutionary histories.
