In summarizing the petrographic components of ALHA 81005, it is noted that the fusion crust and main cluster of glass compositions are less aluminous than A16 soils; they have a higher Mg/Fe ratio and lower concentrations of TiO2 and Na2O (both approximately 0.3 percent) than any other lunar soil. This is consistent with the dominance of troctolitic and granulitic components and the absence of KREEP. Whereas the 'troctolitic' component is not well defined, it is, according to glass norms and the mafic mineral fragments in the rock, plutonic, magnesian, and low in Ni; it has a high ol/px ratio, and if it contains plagioclase, the plagioclase is very calcic. It is noted that it could be similar to lunar frontside Mg-suite troctolites and/or similar to the olivine-rich component in L20 soils. Several lines of evidence indicate the presence of a small mare basalt component. The mare basalts apparently consist of several varieties with different TiO2 contents. Giordano Bruno is seen as having the greatest likelihood of being the source of ALHA 81005.
