Onboard computers can work out nearly optimal control algorithms for spacecraft by analysing the dynamic model of the craft; specific control parameters must be found in flight by application of a previously determined test program. Such a procedure is illustrated in the case of a spacecraft with elastic elements like antennas, solar batteries, etc. which must be turned at a prescribed angle in the plane of dynamic symmetry.
