The authors propose linear Landau damping on oblique Alfvén waves as a significant dissipation mechanism acting on Alfvénic turbulence during propagation in the solar wind. A corresponding calculation of the evolution of the turbulent spectrum is shown to indeed reproduce the main features of the HELIOS observations of magnetic turbulence. In particular, the characteristic behaviour of dissipation length versus frequency derived from the data is well reproduced.
