Alcatel Space involvement in DARWIN goes back to the first system study of a thermal infrared space interferometer, which was carried out for the European Space Agency (ESA), starting from 1998. This study demonstrated the feasibility of the DARWIN mission, established the still valid conceptual design of the interferometer, and recommended several technological developments to be undertaken. Accordingly, we are now deeply involved in a number of activities, ranging from Radio-Frequency Sensing to Integrated Optics, and also including Constellation Control, Multi-Aperture Imaging Interferometer, Fringe Sensor and Achromatic Phase-Shifter, which belong to ESA's Technology Research Programme. We are determined to continue this effort in technology as well as system developments, in the framework of GENIE, of a Formation Flying demonstrator, and eventually of DARWIN itself.
