Radiative Transfer: Albedo, Radiative Transfer: Atmospheres

Scientific paper

The standard problem of the radiative transfer theory is considered, i.e., the evaluation of the radiation field in a plane-parallel scattering atmosphere. Recently developed new approach to the problem, the so-called albedo shifting technique, is used for the evaluation of the source function for both semi-infinite and finite atmospheres illuminated by parallel rays. The method enables one to "dump" scattering and thus obtain solutions by only a few direct Lambda-iterations even in those cases when the mean number of photon scatterings in the atmosphere is large.
