Carbon Chains, Pdrs

Scientific paper

We present premilinary results on molecular carbon chains in PhotoDissociation Regions (PDRs). IRAM 30-m telescope data have been obtained for C18O, CS, C2H, c-C3H2, C4H, l-C3H, c-C3H and HN13C. They are compared with ISOCAM CVF data on IC 63 and NGC 7023. Hydrocarbons are observed with high abundances in the illuminated part of the PDR, coincident with the Aromatic Infrared Bands (AIBs) emission. These high abundances, in some cases close to the values found in TMC-1 at the cyanopolyyne peak (CP), might be explained by an in situ formation of carbon chains and rings assisted by the release of acetylene from very small carbon particules.
