For this Second Symposium, aerothermodynamics was defined to include the science and technology of classical aerodynamics, thermodynamics and thermochemistry. The applications covered external flow over space vehicles and internal flows through vehicle propulsion systems. The speed range was from low subsonic to supersonic and hypersonic speeds. Flight trajectories covered: the ascent to space from planetary surfaces; the descent from space to planetary surfaces; flight through low density atmospheres; aerobraking by atmospheric entry.
