Scientific paper

The paper examines preliminary results on the descent of Venera 11 and 12 modules in the Venusian atmosphere. Attention is given to such characteristics as: (1) dependence of drag coefficient on angle of attack, (2) component of the angular velocity vector with respect to the OX axis of the descent craft, and (3) transverse angular velocity. It is shown that the aerodynamic design of the craft assured reliable radio communication and a successful landing on the planetary surface. The preliminary results are in good agreement with mathematical modeling and wind tunnel tests.
