Accretion Disks: Models
Scientific paper
The optically thin, advection-dominated disk model has drawn much attention recently. In advection-dominated disks, potential energy of accreting gas is inefficiently converted to radiation, thereby being advected into a central object. The disk then becomes hot, emitting high-energy radiation. In adddition the disk is thermally unstable, as long as heat diffusion is neglected, so that rapid variability is expected. The authors introduce such an odd disk model.
