Flux is conserved during mechanical compression of magnetic fields for
both nonrelativistic compressors. However, the relativistic compressor
generates radiation, which can carry up to twice the energy content of
the magnetic field compressed adiabatically. The radiation may be either
confined or allowed to escape.
