The paper describes a near-equatorial ionospheric disturbance which takes the form of sharp additional gradients of electron density in the F2-layer and has a complex structure associated with the characteristic dimensions of stratification, of the order of several tens of kilometers relative to height. Experimental data on this phenomenon are presented and discussed; the possibility of using this phenomenon for purposes of radio communication is considered.
