We examine the positions of the active longitudes in close binaries with respect to their companion stars on a sample of 12 systems. The primaries of four (five?) main sequence eclipsing binaries (RT And, CG Cyg, BH Vir, WY Cnc, and, possibly, UV Psc) show active longitudes at the quadrature positions. The K2 IV component of RS CVn has spots at all longitudes. Three subgiant binaries (AR Lac, SZ Psc and RT Lac have spots on both components, with pronounced active longitudes at the substellar points, and at other longitudes as well. Finally, three giant, non-eclipsing binaries (UZ Lib, HK Lac, IM Peg) have active longitudes at their substellar points and opposite to it. In case of main sequence systems probably their common magnetic field, for giants the tidal force, and, for subgiants both forces together, determine the positions of the active longitudes.
