This paper describes how the Infrared High-Value Target Acquisition tracker subsystem autonomously selects and tracks points throughout the IR sensor's field of view to maintain geometry stabilization relative to the ground. How the acquisition subsystem uses this stabilization to interrelate sequential snapshots is shown, and the use of ground-stabilized geometry for transition from acquisition of large landmark objects early in the mission to smaller targets later in the mission with minimized false alarm probability is described. The advantages of this design for the detection probability and operation in the presence of camouflage and decoys are explained.
