A total of 47 positions of the planet Pluto in the period from 1979 to 1987 have been measured on Schmidt plates taken with the Asiago and ESO-La Silla telescopes. With the present paper, 7 percent of the Pluto orbit has been covered in a homogeneous way. A comparison is made with the ephemeris published by Kaplan (1980). The residuals plotted versus epoch show a systematic trend (with an amplitude up to 1.3 arcsec in R.A.), modulated by a yearly variation of the order of 0.5 arcsec in both coordinates.
