A sample of 12 atomic O I allowed transitions is used to obtain an
accurate scale of oscillator strengths for transitions of astrophysical
interest. Configuration interaction effects are considered in detail,
and the results are used to improve the solar abundance determination
for oxygen. The new result is A(O) = 8.86 + or - 0.04.
