Current isotopic cosmogeochemistry and chronometry show that the silicate material of the earth has a nonchondritic composition, but the volatile components indicate an accumulation of a chondritic material. The accumulation rate of the planets was probably high, and intensive heating and differentiation took place; in the earth's interior the juvenile volatiles were preserved. It was shown that these contradictions can be resolved with a model of a heterogeneous earth which assumes that volatiles were buried under the accumulation of an iron-nickel protocore; such a scheme is in accordance with the presence of atmospheres on the planets with iron cores and with the absence of the volatiles in the silicate moon.
