Computations are performed for secondary components undergoing accretion during the mass exchange phase in close binary systems. As a result it is shown that the parameters of theoretical models for binary systems, such as beta Lyrae and X-ray binaries, imply that these systems pass through a contact phase, putting constraints on the predicted parameters of the ancestor systems.
