I will review the recent observational results regarding circumstellar disks around young solar-like stars. A special emphasis will be given to results obtained in France to show that our community if exceptionnally active and creative in this highly competitive field. The high angular resolution and high dynamic range now available with the variety of instruments we have access to, and spanning a wide wavelength range, allows for in-depth studies of these systems. Although we cannot directly detect planets yet, some constraints on the protoplanetary environment are available. The observational results and their implications for star and planet formation will be discussed.
