Accretion disks around super-massive black holes are widely believed to be the source of the optical/UV continuum in active galactic nuclei. We infer the characteristic disk temperatures from the bolometric luminosity and black hole masses of a sample of SDSS Type I AGN. Continuum colors of these AGN do not track disk temperatures as expected, remaining constant or becoming redder with higher disk temperature. Likewise, emission-line intensities are predicted to vary substantially across the range of inferred temperatures of the ionizing disk continuum, contrary to observation. We discuss modifications to standard disk models which may account for the observed relations between continuum colors, emission line intensities and AGN disk temperatures.
