The southern site of the Pierre Auger Observatory in Argentina is now half complete and has accumulated an integrated exposure of 1750 km2 sr yr. A measurement of the cosmic ray energy spectrum in the southern sky is reported here. The analysis, using high statistic surface detector data, is based on the calibration of the energy estimator of the surface detector (SD) through the fluorescence detector (FD) data, thus avoiding the use of shower simulations and hadronic interaction models. Furthermore, the acceptance of the SD is purely geometrical above 3EeV (3 1018eV), providing a simple and robust estimation of the cosmic ray flux.
