We consider the class of non-homogeneous Stephani models as a prototype of models in which the present acceleration is driven by non-homogeneities. We present an alternative explanation of the present acceleration to the ΛCDM model. We confront the Stephani models with SNIa observations on recent available supernovae samples. It is shown that the Stephani model is in good agreement with the SNIa observational data. Complementary analysis of the age of the oldest astronomical objects as a methods of estimation model parameter is also used for confirmation of our analysis. The key point of the paper is using Informative Criteria of model selection for qualifying the evidence in favour of the Stephani model over ΛCDM. The Stephani model is compared with concordance ΛCDM model by using Akaike and Bayesian informative criterions.
