Fifteen interplanetary shocks were observed by the Helios 1 and 2 spaceprobes between 0.3-1 AU during their primary missions in 1974/75 and 1976, respectively. By the use of plasma and magnetic field data these shocks are analyzed and classified according to the theory of collisionless shocks. Variations in intensity of greater than or equal to 80 keV ions are then examined in relation to these shocks. Results are compared with existing theories on particle acceleration by interplanetary shocks.
