Stellar Abundances

Scientific paper

In the frame of the ESO Large Program ""First Stars"" spectra of about 40 extremely metal-poor giants ([Fe/H]<-2.7) have been obtained with UVES at the VLT in the range 330-900 nm. The behaviour of nitrogen at low metallicity is up to now badly known. We present here a first estimation of the nitrogen abundance in these extremely metal-poor stars from a synthesis of the spectrum in the region of the NH band between 336 and 337nm. The trend of [N/Fe] but also of [C+N/Fe] versus metallicity are presented and discussed.
