An improved microwave-sideband CO2 laser spectrometer with resolution of 2×10-4cm-1 is described. For a series of vibration-rotation lines of NH3 in ν2 and ν2 = 2a←ν2 = 1s bands, frequencies, strengths, widths and shifts are derived by measuring the absorption line profiles at different pressures. The experimental results are analysed and compared with previous theoretical calculations and measurements.
