The paper examines the generation of Alfven ion-cyclotron waves in the Pc1,2 (0.1-5 Hz) range and their absorption by cold heavy ions in the equatorial region of the magnetosphere. Quantities characterizing the generation and absorption due to resonant cyclotron particle-wave interaction are estimated in the case when the contribution of resonant plasma components to the dispersion equation (taking into account the nonuniformity of the geomagnetic field) cannot be considered as a correction. Conditions are established under which the low-frequency part of the wave spectrum can be fully absorbed by the cold heavy ions.
