USING the standard form of G.M. counter telescope of Fig. 1, we have made a comparison of the absorption of the vertical component in lead at sea-level, in London and at Colombo, the only difference between the two sets of apparatus being that, at Colombo, the top counter was missing. The results are given in Figs. 2 and 3, the deviations shown being standard deviations, and the following values are found for the percentage soft component and absorption coefficient of the hard component.
