High angular resolution radio observations at 6 cm wavelength are presented for 20 quasars, all but two of which have been selected from a sample used by Weymann et al. (1981) for a survey of absorption lines. The additional two, 1246 - 057 and 1333 + 286, are quasars with broad absorption lines and appear to be radio quiet. The radio structures for the entire sample of 66 sources of Weymann et al. are summarized, and whether the radio structure might provide clues on understanding the origin of the absorption lines in the range Z(em)-Z(ab) of about 3000-18,000 km/s is investigated. The frequency of occurrence of absorption lines appears to be similar for both radio and optically selected quasars. A marginal trend for the radio-selected sources in the above range of Z(em)-Z(ab) is found to have compact radio structures. An investigation of a larger sample of quasars from the compilation by Hewitt and Burbidge (1980) is suggestive of a similar trend.
