The High Velocity Cloud M II has been detected in absorption toward the halo star BD +38 2182, placing the distance to M II at z<4.1 kpc. Absorption is seen out to -120 km/s in the saturated resonance lines of C II, Si II and O I. The highly ionized species of C IV and Si IV do not show absorption out to the velocities of M II. The lack of absorption with v<-100 km/s representative of M II toward the halo star HD 93521 which also lies in the direction of M II further suggests that the distance to M II is z>1.5 kpc. A discussion of the physical nature of the High Velocity Cloud as well as its relationship to other High Velocity gas in the vicinity is presented.
